THE CITY OF YOUTH

Makarska

Makarska is a picturesque town of impressive beauty which lives off tourism and for tourism; a town of youth, culture, sports and entertainment. It was built around a natural port protected by the charming peninsula of Saint Peter and cape Osejava, and it is the biggest and only such port between the Cetina and Neretva estuaries. The town’s history is best discovered in the Franciscan Monastery as well as through the works of art kept in the sacral buildings of the Makarska Littoral and whose authors are famous Croatian painters originating from this region.

The Biokovo Mountain, a majestic gift of nature, emerges from the pearly sea. If you are craving for adventure and attractive sports challenges, Makarska offers an abundance of sports facilities (paragliding, mountain biking, descending into caves and water sports). The beautiful pebble beach stretches for 2 km along the entire town.

THE ISLAND

Hvar

The centre of the sunniest Croatian island of the same name - Hvar is a unique blend of luxurious Mediterranean natural surroundings, layer upon layer of a rich cultural and historical heritage and sophisticated tourism. Located in picturesque natural surroundings on the south side of the island, surrounded by mighty medieval walls, magical fields and the scent of lavender, Hvar is a never-ending treasure of monumental heritage, culture and atmospheres.

The main city square in front of the cathedral by the Arsenal and the oldest European theatre from the 17th century are a favourite gathering place for tourists. Many museums hide valuable works of art (The Last Supper from the 15th century in the dining room of the Franciscan Monastery) and the Benedictine Monastery, famous for its lace making from agave fibres, is often visited.

THE CENTER OF DALMATIA

Split

This eternally young city with around 200 thousand inhabitants has lived its urban rhythm for 1700 years with Diocletian's palace at its heart, which is also the historical centre of the city and a UNESCO world heritage site. The Cathedral of sv. Dujam [St. Domnios], the patron saint of Split, is located in the mausoleum of Emperor Diocletian, and its sumptuous interior is a gathering place for many of the faithful and tourists. Many valuable monuments of culture are located outside the walls of Diocletian's Palace (Renaissance Prokurative Square, palaces, churches, museums...).

THE CITY OF MARCO POLO

Korcula

The birthplace of Marco Polo was built on the foundations of a Greek colony, and is the historical and tourist centre of the largest island in the Dubrovnik region. It is famous for its streets that are shaped in the form of a fish bone and well-preserved Gothic and Renaissance buildings.

Among them stands out the Cathedral of sv. Marko [St. Mark], whose rich interior guards the works of great Italian painters. The people of Korcula have preserved their customs and the medieval knight’s game “Moreska” that takes place on the town streets.

SHRINE

Medjugorje

Medjugorje is one of the most well known catholic shrines in the world, situated near the town of Citluk, in the southern part of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Its population is around 4.300, and it became famous after the phenomenon of appearance of Virgin Mary in 1981. Since then, this Herzegovinian place, besides Sarajevo, is one of the most visited tourist centers in Bosnia and Herzegovina, visited by more than a million chatolics from all over the world. Compared to Lourdes in France, which became a commercial paradise, being visited by more than 6 million tourists-believers a year, Medjugorje still keeps its virgin charm, where pilgrims find the peace in religion. The central gathering point in the shrine of Queen of Peace, as Medjugorje shrine is officially called, is the Church of St. Jacob, in the center of the place.

HERZEGOVINA

Mostar

Mostar is the administrative centre of Herzegovina and its largest town. It has always been referred to as a nice place for living, due to its mild and favourable climates, with over 230 sunny days in a year and winds which make the air in the town so potent and kind. Because of its history, Mostar, as we know it now, has two distinctive parts: the ancient, Old Town, which dates from the early 16th century, and the modern from 1950’s. Regardless to the entrance to the town, you are met by traces of blending of cultures and civilizations, so, in a radius of one hundred meters you can see a mosque, a Roman Catholic church and the spot of the new Mostar synagogue; from the asphalt you will unexpectedly walk on the cobble stone road and dive into the beauty of Mostar.
